Luke did the structure of the head. Dan put on the news paper and part of the vivid paper. I finish putting on the vivid paper and did the painting. Luke should me how to make the brown. Dan helped out with the painting also.
Make a form/structure then start wrapping the structure with couple of layers (make sure to have a bowl of mix paste). let it dry for 24 hours. then wrapped it around the form with vivid paper to give it a smooth surface to work with. let dry for another 24 hours. now you can stat painting your form/structure or add more details with different types of materials if you want more of a artistic look to it. let it dry for another 24 hours. I got my idea from the video i watch on how to make the sgraffito for the shape and as for the details on each side i thought of it as a around the world look. so each side represent the forest, the city, the mountains, and the sea with the moon on top in each side. And how i made the shape is by flattening out the clay and rolling it into for long rectangular slabs and a square shape as the bottom. then i score and slip all the pieces together. after that stated smoothing out the surface and fix the shape a bit. Glazed the rectangular structure all black with a couple of layers and outline with a pencil of what i'm going to carve out. Then used clear glaze to finish up the product and is ready to be fired.
I thought the sgraffito process was fine in the most part of it, but I really didn't find it as enjoyably than the tricup. I guess my product was successful in a way if you don't count the cracks. I should've been more careful of the score and slip process when putting it together. I wouldn't do this again though. This vase is called a pelike.
I worked on cutting the pieces and thinking up the story. Sgraffito: a form of decoration made by scratching through a surface to reveal a lower layer of a contrasting color, typically done in plaster or stucco on walls, or in slip on ceramics before firing. regesters:is a horizontal level in a work that consists of several levels, especially where the levels are clearly separated by lines; modern comic books typically use similar conventions. |
